Don’t go in the Laundry Room

Thursday, August 26th, 2004

So, from the looks of this article on tidy homes and intelligence I’d best keep my kids out of the laundry room.

I try not to be too obsessive about keeping the house squeaky clean, and yet try to keep the kids aware that they have to pick up after themselves. Clutter really stresses me out. But sometimes stuff gets left out…. even out on the driveway.

For example, this skateboard lost the head on duel with the Ford Ranger. Luckily I can’t take the blame for running that one over. (Just don’t look to closely at my daughter’s tricycle. :)

desktop collaboration

Here’s a sampling of the desktops from my laptop over the last year. I suppose some folks like to keep their desktop plain and ordinary, but I like to change my laptop every month or so… here’s some of my laptop desktops and links below. When I work in the office on the Sun Ray, I keep my GNOME session plain-jane. Ever since one of my co-workers (can’t link to him, as he’s not caught the blog bug yet) wrote some scripts to help me get a vnc session working on the Sun Ray, I like to keep that desktop quick and clean. Anything but a plain background slows down any session I’m driving.

The vnc thing is a great collaboration tool, since we do so many virtual meetings here. One other collaboration tool that I resisted at first was IM. I kept thinking, man I already get too many interruptions when I’m working, I don’t need yet another one! But, I’ve been converted. Quick answers to small questions are definitely easier via IM, and sometimes it just helps some of the many virtual meetings go faster… ;)

The Apple Turnover

Thursday, August 12th, 2004

This piece of news cracked me up. I’ve been to the Hoover Dam and the traffic was bad without a truck accident.
